Round Table under the KfW "Agrofinancing Value Chains" Project

On July 4, 2023, a Round Table was held in Bishkek under the KfW project "Agrofinancing of Value Added Chains." The facilitators of the Round Table were AFC (Germany) and CAIConsulting (Kyrgyzstan). The event was attended by 26 representatives of the agricultural sector of Kyrgyzstan, actively contributing to the development of the sector: farmers, representatives of agro clusters, and associations of entrepreneurs, processing companies, local agricultural consulting organizations, international project donors and government bodies.

Participants have collaboratively discussed selecting agricultural value chains methodology and determined the most appropriate chains to support the Project. As part of the Round Table, the participants conducted group work to determine the selection criteria of the value chains assessment detect the «bottlenecks» in the chains and find possible solutions to the identified problems. During the round table  discussion, the participants selected the most strategically important and prospective value chains, as cereals (wheat), sugar beets, vegetables (including potatoes), fruits and berries, representing a potential interest for financing under the project. The results of the Round Table will be supplemented by a more detailed expert analysis of selected value chains, containing the identified risks and needs of farmers and processors.

For reference: KfW's 4-year Value Chain Agri-Finance project will offer loans to farmers, processors and other value chain participants, which will be provided by the European Investment Bank and the German Development Bank (KfW) for a total of 31 million euros.
