Detailed Narrative Description of Project | The objective of the project is to promote rural economic development by improving access to financial services. Complementary to the support of NBT in shaping the supervision and regulation of the microfinance sector, the microfinance association AMFOT is supported in working out strategies for the future development of the microfinance sector and its implementation. MFIs are strengthened in their governance and professionalism, as well as being supported with the development of new, suitable and customised financial products. Thus, lending to agricultural enterprises and SMEs is facilitated in rural areas and creates the basis for an increase in the value creation. In particular through pointed optimisation of the value chain, positive financial impacts on the promotion of agricultural and non-agricultural enterprises are expected. Improving the access of the rural population to new financial products is a significant contribution to improving the conditions for investment in rural areas. Moreover, through the financing of start-ups, business innovations, especially by women, are supported. In addition, households as well as business are supported in introducing energy efficient technologies in order to safeguard the environment. |
Detailed Narrative Description of Services provided | For this purpose, so-called “green” loan products are developed and introduced with the partner MFIs, including energy efficiency loans for improved insulation of homes, energy efficient heating systems and the use of solar energy as well as water resources. Capacity building in the area of energy efficiency also included raising general awareness among MFI staff as well as MFI clients. |
