Detailed Narrative Description of Project

The objective of the German joint GIZ and KfW program is to support selected partner countries to become "ready" in terms of institutional capacities, national transformational strategies, and support for the preparation of programs with transformational impact, including private sector involvement. The support includes the accreditation of nominated national and regional organizations and development banks as Implementing Agencies for direct or international access to the GCF, and the access to, and the efficient and effective use of the funds.

Detailed Narrative Description of Services provided

One activity of the KfW component (Program) is the support to the accreditation of national and regional development banks and other financial intermediaries where those institutions are selected by the respective governments as Implementing Entities for Direct or International Access. Support for national climate finance institutions other than development banks will be provided by GIZ and is not part of the Program. The main activity of the Program, however, is the development of GCF investment plans and prioritized project pipelines in each Program country. This includes the identification of priority sectors too. In order to augment the eligible projects for the project pipelines the consultant will prepare a substantial number of GCF-suitable pre-feasibility studies or review and adjust existing studies in cooperation with competent authorities of the respective countries.

Expected main outputs are pre-feasibility studies for GCF suitable projects or – as the case may be - updated and adjusted studies of suitable GCF-ready projects.
