CAIConsulting, together with the British company Atkins, started the implementation of the EBRD project “Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Tyup-Karakol Road Reconstruction Project”

In October 2020, CAIConsulting, together with the British company Atkins, started the implementation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) project “Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) for the Tyup-Karakol Road Reconstruction Project”. The main customer of this project is the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic. As the reconstruction project involves expanding the road to four traffic lanes on a 32 km long section, this could lead to significant adverse environmental and/or social impacts in the future, and therefore the EBRD initiated an integrated environmental and social impact assessment.

In November 2020, the first study tours of highly specialized experts in ecology, hydrology, biology and ichthyology took place in order to obtain data for the preparation of the ESIA. On the adjacent territory to the Tyup-Karakol road, various objects were identified, including rare objects of flora and fauna and the main hydrological objects (rivers, tributaries) that could be affected during the road reconstruction.

A detailed narrative ESIA report will be prepared by the Atkins-CAIConsulting consortium and submitted to the EBRD and the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Kyrgyz Republic in March 2021.
